Service is a big part of being a Christian Disciple, and North Hills tries to be very active in communities around us.
WHO SAYS THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH OR FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES?
On Saturday, August 14 we celebrated “back to school” by giving away 47 packets of school supplies and about 47 free snack packs to our neighbors in Ferguson and Dellwood. We also offered free, fresh produce from the Community Gardens of Hope Hill and introduced our neighbors to a rep from the new Mercy Clinic Primary Care and Women’s Health Facility in Ferguson. Thanks to all of you who donated school supplies, snacks, time and energy to help us spread the good news of God’s love and care for our community!
We provide casseroles during cold weather to 6-4-3 WARM: Ferguson Warming Center.
We support and volunteer at St. Stephen’s Food Pantry in Ferguson.
When students are on campus, we have members bringing a Christian presence to Florissant Valley Community College.
We make and donate blankets to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital
We also strive to be a part of the community in our neighborhood by sponsoring annual community Easter Egg Hunts, Backpack Blessings, and Trunk-or-Treat events. At many of these events we also offer a community meal and an opportunity to worship. This year we participated in Ferguson’s Drive-Thru Spooktacular and handed out over 500 bags of candy to kids. (And a few parents too!)
Our most visible ministry to the community is the Community Gardens of Hope Hill, a partnership project with Gateway Greening and Whole Foods. For more about the garden look here.
